1. Introduction.
The Social Listening & Analytics tool allows you to enter different search terms in the monitored content (profile, hashtag, keywords or mentions on Twitter and profiles or hashtags on Instagram), to limit the search results, both on Twitter and Instagram.
With the filters you determine, you will be able to obtain reports with tweets (in the case of Twitter) and photos/videos (in the case of Instagram) that contain any of the words you include and will allow you to further narrow your search results. You will be able to search for one or more words, an exact phrase, multiple words so that they all appear, or a multi-word search that includes some words and excludes others.
2. Type of filters.
2.1. Search for a word.
Enter a word to display all posts that contain it.
In the case of Instagram, be aware of API limitations: How Facebook API changes affect sweepstakes and monitoring on Instagram.
2.2. Search for an exact phrase.
To get posts with a specific phrase, you have to include the phrase in quotation marks. This way, the search engine will not take each word separately. Example: "good service".
2.3. Multi-word search.
In order for any content or tweet containing ANY of the words you enter to appear in the search, type them separated by "OR". Example: efficient OR good OR recommended.
2.4. Search for several words so that all of them appear.
If you want the search results to show publications in which ALL the words have been included, you must type them all in the search engine. Example: efficient good recommended.
2.5. Search for several words, excluding other word(s).
Include in the query the words separated by OR, adding a hyphen in front of the word(s) you want to exclude. Example: efficient OR good -unacceptable -lousy, the search will include those tweets or Instagram content containing the words efficient or good, excluding from the search those content containing the words unacceptable or lousy.
2.6. Search for several words so that all of them appear, excluding other word(s).
Type one by one all the words you want to include in the search, and add a hyphen in front of the word(s) you want to exclude. Example: efficient good -unacceptable -lousy, in this case, the tweets or Instagram content containing the two words efficient and good will be collected, excluding from the search that content containing the words unacceptable or lousy.
2.7. Exclusion of one or more users.
You can remove or exclude one or more users so that the content generated by them does not enter our analysis. To do this, simply add the user's name (along with their @) after a hyphen. Example: -@cooltabsapp
You can, at the same time, make use of any filter above, to search, for example, for several words and at the same time exclude several users and words. Example: efficient OR good -unacceptable -@cooltabsapp -@jason
2.8. Inclusion or analysis of one or several users.
You can include in the filters only the content/tweets of one or several users, simply using a mention (@+username). For example, if you only want to include the tweets of the users @peter and @jose, you would perform the search: @peter @jose
In addition, you can combine this search with any of the above. For example, a filter where several words are used, excluding others, only from two users. Example: efficient OR good -unacceptable
2.9. Restrict by language.
You can restrict tweets by their language. For example, "obama lang:es".
3. Filter management.
Filters can be configured from the 'Tweets management' section in a Twitter monitoring or from 'Photo Manager' in an Instagram monitoring, which is located on the left side of the monitoring panel.
You can also find it from the monitoring menu, by clicking on the 'Manage' icon.
You can filter by search terms, by date, language, exclude users or set to include only the posts of the user or users you specify. Furthermore, you can also set filters to show only tweets with links, with photo or video, original tweets, retweets, exclude replies or show only replies, or by the status of the post in the case of Instagram.
Clicking the filter will generate search results according to the filters you have set. If you want to save that filter to work with it later, you will need to click on 'Save filter and view report'.
