1. Introduction.
In this tutorial, we are going to explain to you what the tracking codes are for, how to set them up, and where to configure them. There are five types of tracking codes:
- Google Tag Manager ID (GTM-): it is a tag manager of page views in Analytics. It also serves to follow the conversions that occur in Google Ads. Its use is not mandatory. Nowadays, few people use this add-on.
- Google Analytics code (G-XXXX): is the identifier provided by Google Analytics. On July 1, 2023, Google stopped processing data from Universal Analytics (UA) properties.
- Campaign identifier for your Analytics URLs: this will make your campaign URLs appear as "/promos/your-identifier/" in our analytics, instead of "promos/id-promo/".
-
Tracking codes or pixels: these are codes that will allow you to know when a user accesses each of your campaign pages.
-
Conversion Pixel: this code reflects whether conversions have been generated or not (for example, whether a user has completed the form or not). If you add your GA4 ID, these footprints will be painted automatically.
To set up the tracking codes, go to the 'Cookies & Tracking code' section of your campaign edition.
2. Google Analytics snippet configuration.
2.1. Google Analytics using Google Tag Manager (GTM).
You must have an account created at https://tagmanager.google.com/. Once you are logged in, locate your ID on the first screen:
Enter the ID in the corresponding field of your campaign's editor, and we will take care of the rest.
2.2. Google Analytics using GA4.
If you do not have Google Tag Manager, place the Google Tag ID in your campaign.
We allow you to include that ID to track your campaign traffic. This way, you will be able to tell Analytics which account and property the data is sent to.
If you don't have an Analytics account yet or want to create a new GA4 property, see the tutorial Find your Google Tag ID.
The Google tag ID, it's a string similar to G-XXXXX.
To find your ID:
1) Go to https://analytics.google.com
2) Click on the Admin section.
3) Choose the Account and the Property for which you want to get the ID.
4) In the Property column, click Data Streams.
5) Click the data stream.
5) Select a data stream from the list.
7) In the Web stream details, you will find the ID.
Go back to your Cool Tabs campaign and enter the identifier in the corresponding field. You have to add the full identifier (with the G- included).
2.3. Google Analytics identifier.
In the 'Cookies & Tracking codes' tab, you will also find a field to include the 'Analytics identifier for this campaign'. If you fill this, the URLs in Analytics will always be like '/promos/your-identifier/....' instead of '/promos/promo-id/...'
Type the name by which you want to identify the tracking code of your campaign in Google Analytics.
To monitor these data, go to Google Analytics, select the corresponding application, filter by dates, and add your identifier to the search engine.
You will see all the tracking code information that you have included previously.
3. Facebook pixel configuration.
To locate the Facebook Pixel, go to https://business.facebook.com/
If you have not yet created a Pixel, go to 'Events Manager', click 'Connect Data Sources', and select 'Web'. Then select 'Facebook Pixel' and click 'Connect'. Add your 'Pixel Name' and enter your website URL to check for easy setup options.
The pixel identifier appears in the 'Data source' section.
Once you have created it, go to the 'Tracking code' section of your campaign editor, enable the 'Add Facebook Pixel' option and enter the pixel identifier.
By enabling the Facebook Pixel and including the ID in your campaign, you will be able to track the actions of your campaign participant when they complete their data. You will get information about two events:
- "PageView" event on all pages: the default pixel tracks visits to your campaign pages.
- "CompleteRegistration" event when the participant completes the registration form in the campaign.
4. Other systems tracking code configuration (Ad Roll, DoubleClick...).
You can include as many tracking codes or pixels as you need. These tracks will always be painted at the end of each page label.
You will need a tracking code that will have been provided by the provider.
Tracking codes can be embedded:
- In the whole campaign
- Only on the thank-you page
4.1. Tracking codes on every page.
To include tracking codes in the whole campaign, enable the option 'Display your own tracking JavaScript code'. Copy and paste into the box the tracking code, pixel, or any other piece of code you need to show on every page of your campaign.
By default, this tracking code is included on all pages. If you do not want it not to be included in the thank-you page, because you need another one, check the option 'Don't display this tracking code in the final page'.
4.2. Tracking codes on the thank-you page.
To include tracking codes on the thank-you page, enable the option 'Display your own tracking JavaScript code on the final page' and paste the code. You will be able to measure the conversion of your Facebook/Google Ads. We will only display them when a participant completes their participation in the campaign.
By default, this tracking code is executed every time a user participates. If you only want the conversion pixel to be executed the first time a user participates in the campaign, check the option 'Execute conversion track/pixels only on the first participation of one person'. This way, if a user participates more than once, the pixel will not be executed.
5. Other specifications.
- All tracking codes (Google, Facebook...) are supported by Cool Tabs. You can fill in all the options.
- Two conversion pixels can be painted at once, as long as they are separated by lines.
- Tracking codes are painted on all Cool Tabs pages.
