2.1. Sweepstakes among followers.
2.2. Sweepstakes based on likes.
3.4. Competitor's profile monitoring.
1. Introduction.
In 2018, due to the Cambridge Analytics scandal, Facebook made changes to its API, affecting Instagram. These modifications limited the access that external apps (such as sweepstakes apps) have to certain profile data and content published on the social network. And, therefore, they also affect the sweepstakes and monitoring you can perform on Cool Tabs.
You can also check out the changes through the following link: https://developers.facebook.com/blog/post/2018/04/04/facebook-api-platform-product-changes/
Below, we explain what the limitations of the API consist of.
2. Sweepstakes on Instagram.
2.1. Sweepstakes among followers.
Instagram does not provide information about the list of users who follow a certain account. This means that the Instagram Sweepstakes app does not allow automated sweepstakes among followers.
When selecting the winner, it is also not possible to filter by the requirement to be a follower.
The condition of having to be a follower is not an action that Instagram prohibits. You can set it as a condition to participate. However, keep in mind that, when selecting a winner, you will have to check this requirement manually by accessing the winner's profile and verifying that he/she is indeed a follower.
2.2. Sweepstakes based on likes.
The API does not allow collecting data related to interactions with a post. For that reason, the Instagram Sweepstakes app does not allow you to run sweepstakes on Instagram based on likes.
As with the requirement to become a follower, asking participants to 'Like' your post is not prohibited. However, as Instagram does not allow you to know this data in an automated way, you will have to check it manually.
We recommend that you choose to establish as a requirement that they comment on the publication and/or mention friends.
3. Monitoring.
Firstly, keep in mind that only administrators who have an Instagram account associated with Facebook Business can create monitoring.
If you don't know how to associate an Instagram account with Facebook Business, check out the tutorial on How to add an Instagram account to Facebook Business.
3.1. Information obtained.
Facebook's API severely limits the information it returns from content posted on Instagram. It does not allow you to collect any personally identifiable information about the followers of a given profile. Therefore, you will not be able to get detailed information such as gender, biography information, location or who are the most influential followers.
The information you are going to be able to get from a publication is:
- ID
- Type of content (photo, video, carousel)
- Caption (photo text)
- Number of likes
- Number of comments
- URL of the post (For example, https://www.instagram.com/p/Bqx7o8dhETN/).
No information is obtained about:
- Date of the post
- No user data of any kind. The API does not provide the username of the user. Although it is not possible to know this information automatically, you can get the username of the user who has published by accessing the publication URL.
3.2. Hashtag monitoring.
3.2.1. Monitored content.
It is only allowed to collect information from posts in the photo feed (also photo carousels and Reels) and videos, which are public.
Instagram does not return advertised or promoted media content.
3.2.2. Number of monitoring.
For each Instagram profile, the API only allows monitoring 30 hashtags at a time.
3.2.3. Age of the content collected.
The API does not return content from a hashtag older than 24 hours. If you create a hashtag monitoring on Instagram today, we will not be able to collect content from a week ago. That's why it's important to create the monitoring in time, so you don't miss content. From the moment you create your monitoring, you will get information from the previous 24 hours onwards.
3.3. Profile monitoring.
If you are the profile administrator, it is possible to obtain 30 days of historical data about your followers.
3.4. Competitor's profiles monitoring.
In the competitor profiles, Instagram only provides historical data of followers to the last 24 hours since the monitor is created.
Therefore, if you are going to monitor profiles that you do not manage and want to know their follower evolution, we recommend that you create the monitor as soon as possible so that this data can be collected. Once created, you will get all the information from the on.
4. Other specifications.
