How to check if a user follows your Instagram account

1. Introduction.

The Instagram Sweepstakes app allows you to select winner/s among users who comment on a post, mention other people and/or use a certain hashtag.

Until 2018, it was also possible to launch sweepstakes among followers and automatically check if the participant had become a follower. However, Instagram's API stopped providing that information to external apps, such as our sweepstake app.

Nowadays, it is common that brands continue to include in their sweepstakes the condition of becoming a follower. You should know that it is an action that Instagram does not prohibit in its policies of use and promotions. However, the limitation imposed by the Instagram API prevents knowing, in an automated way, if users have become followers.

2. Step by step.

Once you make the winner selection with the Instagram Sweepstakes app, you will have to manually check that the winner follows you.

To check it:

1) Log in to your Instagram account: https://www.instagram.com/

2) Search for the user's profile. It is only possible to check this if the user's profile is public.

3) Go to the following (users). 

You will see a list of users you are following.

4) Enter the username of the profile who must be a follower to participate. If it appears, you are a follower of the profile. If it appears, he/she is your follower.
