2.2.1. Message to display to the participants when the email is pending validation.
2.2.2. Email received by the participant to validate it.
1. Introduction.
When configuring the data form, you have the option of asking the participant to verify their email. You will prevent users from participating in the campaign with a fake or unused email.
Email verification works as follows. After completing the data form, the participant receives a validation email to the email address provided. Only once the email has been confirmed, he/she will be considered a participant in the campaign.
You should opt for this functionality in campaigns with anonymous login because if you do not configure the email verification, the same user could participate with false emails countless times.
2. Step by step.
2.1. Enable email validation.
To enable email verification, go to the 'Entry form' section of the campaign edition.
Check the 'Email', 'Required field' and 'Verify the participant's email by sending him/her one email' options.
When you activate email verification, by default, the option 'Share the list of email validation between all your campaigns'.
With this option, if a user participates in your campaign, using their email 'email1@example.com', and clicks on the validation email, when they participate in another of your campaigns with the same email, they will not receive the verification email again. We will consider that email as valid.
If you want that, regardless of the fact that a user has already validated his/her email in another of your campaigns, he/she will receive the email asking him to verify it, uncheck the option.
2.2.1. Message to display to the participants when the email is pending validation.
When the participants fill out their personal details, they will visualize the following message: "Your participation in this contest won't be fully registered until you validate your email address. We have just emailed 'xxxxx@xxx.com' with instructions to validate it".
You can edit and customize this screen to display another message. To add your own message, check the 'Display a customized screen when the user is waiting to validate his/her email address' box.
From the list of participations, you can check the status of the email verification.
2.2.2. Email received by the participant to validate it.
The participant will receive an email informing him/her that he/she must verify his/her email address in order for his/her participation to be considered valid. This email has a default message configured.
Send a custom email
If you prefer, you can set up your own personalized email.
1) Go to the 'Emails & SMS' section of your campaign edition > 'Manage your campaign email and SMS templates'.
2) Add a new email template.
3) Customize the template: subject, sender's name, sender's email address, message body...
It is important that, in the email you configure, you include the text {{{ validate_email_url }}} or {{{ validate_email_link_tags }}}. We will replace the variable with the actual link that the participants will have to click to validate their email.
4) Check the automatic delivery option
5) Select the event 'Pending email validation'. In this way, the email will be sent to the user after completing the participation form.
To configure your email, you can refer to the tutorial How to email your campaign participants.
3. Other specifications.
This anti-fraud system affects the functioning of some campaigns:
- Instant Win promotion: the instant win is assigned when users validate their email, not after he/she fills in the details in the participation form (as usual). Example: if the prize is set to be awarded at 3 pm and someone participates at 2.50, completes the personal details, and validates the email address at 3 (or in the next minutes if nobody validated the email in the award-winning minute), that person will be the winner.
- If it’s a moderated campaign, when users validate their email, the participation is not visualized automatically as published. It remains pending moderation by the administrator.
-
The "Thanks for participating" email, which the administrator can personalize, won’t be sent when the participants fill out their personal details, but when they have validated their email.
-
If it’s a validation of a discount voucher campaign, the data validation checking is performed in the participation as well as the validation. Example:
-
User A uses the correct voucher CUPON1 and receives the email for validation, but doesn't validate it yet.
-
User B uses the correct coupon CUPON1. The system will allow his/her to use it because user A hasn’t validated the email yet. User B validates the email.
-
When user A validates the email, as user B has already used CUPON1 as well as validated the email, has already been used by user B and has validated the email, s/he will visualize a message saying that the voucher has already been used. User A will have to participate again with another voucher.
-
Before activating email verification, check the total number of emails you have available in your plan.
