1. Introduction.
The nickname or alias is a field that allows participants to identify themselves more anonymously in public campaigns. This field is particularly useful for:
- Public rankings: Enables the display of classifications without revealing personal data.
- Winner lists: Conceals the full name of winners, providing more privacy.
When participants use social login (Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, etc.) to register, the nickname is autofilled with their social media alias but can be modified by the user according to their preferences. If the user enters a new nickname, it will be saved for future participations.
In this tutorial, we will teach you how to configure your campaign so that the nickname is visible in public lists instead of displaying the participant's full name.
2. Step by step.
2.1 How to configure the nickname.
1. Access Campaign Editing > Entry Form > Personal data
2. Enable the "nickname" field.
- Check the box for "Nickname or alias" and set it as required.
You can combine this field with other data fields based on your campaign's needs.
3. Display nicknames in Public Lists.
Select the option "Display the alias/nickname instead of the first and last name on the winners page".
This option is enabled by default for rankings or public lists.
2.2 How the nickname appears in public lists.
2.2.1 When the campaign requests a nickname.
If the campaign requests participants to provide a nickname, the nickname they enter will be displayed. If they participate via social login and do not modify the nickname, the autofilled alias from their social media account will be used.
Example:
2.2.2 When the campaign does not request a nickname.
If the campaign does not request a nickname, the default display will show the participant's first name and the initial of their last name (e.g., "Marta P.").
Example with first name and initial:
If your campaign requires full names to be displayed in public lists, you can request this feature. In this case, the list will reflect the participant's full name (e.g., "Marta Pérez"). Contact us at help@cool-tabs.com with your campaign name to enable this feature.
Example with full name:
2.3 Additional considerations.
- Nicknames are not guaranteed to be unique: Currently, it is possible for multiple participants to use the same alias.
- Campaigns with hidden data: If you activate the option "Hide from participation form personal data if we can read that from the social network" (entry Form section > Advanced), the nickname will remain visible and editable.
