1. Introduction
A product recommender is an interactive tool that helps users find the ideal product through personalized questions.
With Cool Tabs, you can create a recommender in quiz format — point-based or with logic jumps — that shows a personalized final recommendation, includes information about the product or service, and takes the user straight to purchase.
It's ideal for guides and gift finders, or for e-commerce sites looking to boost sales with smart recommendations.
Here's how to set it up, step by step.

2. Step by Step
2.1. Create your campaign and configure the basic settings
The first step is to log in to Cool Tabs, create your campaign, and set the general configuration.
Is this your first time on Cool Tabs? Don't worry. We've prepared a tutorial that walks you step by step through the basic sections of your campaign and the recommended settings, to make sure everything works correctly and performs at its best.

2.2. Point-based quiz recommender
A point-based quiz recommender works through a scoring system. Each answer option is assigned a numerical value, which can vary depending on the product or profile being recommended. As the user answers the quiz, the tool adds up the points and, at the end, shows a specific final screen based on the total score or the highest-scoring category.
2.2.1. How to configure it
In the campaign editor, go to the Quiz section.
Select the point-based quiz mode.
Create your questions and add the answer options (single-choice, multiple-answer type).
-
Assign a different score to each answer option.
For example, in a "Find the perfect gift" recommender: for the question "Who is it for?", the answer "Man" might add 1 point; for "What's their style?", "Classic" might add 10; and for "What's your budget?", "Under €50" might add 100.
The participant accumulates points as they progress through the quiz.
-
In the Final Screen section, create a result message for each product or score range.
Following the example above, a user who selects Man, Classic and Under €50 will score 1+10+100 = 101 points. That final screen would be set to show only to users who reach that score.
Add the recommended product's content to each final screen: image, description, purchase link, or a personalized promotion.
Tip: this type of recommender works great for campaigns like "Find your ideal product," "Which gift suits you," or "Gift guide," since it offers a quick, simple experience without needing to set up logic paths.
Check out the tutorial How to configure a point-based quiz in Cool Tabs for a detailed look at assigning scores to answers and displaying final screens based on results.
2.3. Recommender with logic jumps
This option branches the quiz: depending on the user's answer, a specific question is shown while irrelevant ones are hidden. Each path leads to a unique recommendation, creating a more personalized experience.
2.3.1. How to configure it
In the campaign editor, go to the Quiz section.
Design your quiz.
In the Final Screen section, define the final screens, including the recommended product's information (image, description, purchase link).
Go to the Logic Jumps section and enable the Logic Jumps checkbox. Note that enabling this feature has an additional cost.
In "Logic Jumps Editing," define different paths based on the user's answers (if they choose option A, they go to question 2A; if B, they jump to 2B, and so on). In other words, for each answer, set which question the user goes to next ("Then go to…"), and also define what happens "otherwise," if no condition is met.
Make sure every path ends at a final screen. Check that there are no "orphan paths" that don't lead to a result.
You can use the tutorial How to configure a quiz or survey with logic jumps and branches to learn how to create custom paths based on participants' answers.
3. Other specifications
You can combine your recommender with other promotions: for example, offer a discount or giveaway to those who complete the quiz.
Cool Tabs' Gold and Diamond plans let you set up a point-based or logic-jump product recommender, with personalized final screens based on the score obtained.
The recommender with logic jumps or custom paths requires extra activation and has an additional cost. If you'd like to enable this feature on your account, contact us at help@cool-tabs.com.
