When running a sweepstakes on Cool Tabs, you may be faced with some problems that prevent you from using the Instagram Sweepstakes app and Facebook Sweepstakes app. These have to do either with the fact that our tool, when trying to connect to your profile, does not find it, or that we do not have all the necessary Facebook permissions to access it.
Below, we detail what these problems are and how to solve them.
1. Problem: You can't find yourprofile.
If the profile on which you want to carry out the sweepstakes does not appear, it is almost certainly due to one of the following reasons.
1.1. The profile you are trying to link is personal.
The first problem we often see is that the profile on which you are trying to carry out the sweepstakes is personal.
The Facebook API does not allow sweepstakes on personal profiles. These must be business profiles, in the case of Instagram, and fanpages, in the case of Facebook.
If when you create your sweepstakes in Cool Tabs and try to link your account it does not appear, make sure it is a Business profile.
If you have a personal account, the solution is simple: change it to business. You can follow the steps in the tutorial below:
1.2. The Instagram profile is not associated to a Facebook fanpage.
Another requirement imposed by the API when running sweepstakes is that the Instagram account must be linked to a Facebook fanpage.
If when you create your sweepstakes in Cool Tabs and try to link your account it does not appear, check that your Instagram profile is associated to a Facebook Business fanpage.
If your Instagram account is not associated to Facebook Business, link it by following the steps in this tutorial:
2. Problem: You have not accepted all Facebook permissions.
Another common problem that prevents the sweepstakes from taking place is that, although the Facebook profile has been linked, Cool Tabs has not been given all the necessary permissions to access that profile and read the information.
Keep in mind that access to an Instagram account's data is done through Facebook. Therefore, for sweepstakes on Instagram, it is also necessary to associate the Facebook account and accept permissions. Once done, Facebook will allow us to collect the entries in your Instagram sweepstakes post.
Identifying this problem is simple. You will get a message like the one in the following image, where we ask you to accept Facebook permissions, and we detail the types of permissions we need and their current status.
3. How to troubleshoot.
To solve the lack of permissions, follow these steps:
1) Click on the 'Connect' button to manage permissions. A Facebook dialog box will open.
2) Click on the 'Edit access' option. It is important that you do not click on 'Continue as XXXX', otherwise you will not be able to configure the permissions.
3) Select the permissions you are going to give to Cool Tabs and click on 'Continue'. Cool Tabs may not work properly if you uncheck these options. So, we recommend you check all of them.
Click on 'Deselect all' and then on 'Select all' to re-check all the options and prevent any of them from being unchecked. You can always access them again to edit them.
4) Close the dialog box and click on the 'Continue as XXX' button.
The profile will be correctly associated, and you will be able to continue with the sweepstakes' configuration.
If your profile is business and linked to a Facebook fanpage, but still does not appear in the list of profiles to select, click on the 'I can't find my profile' button and then on 'Connect' with Facebook. You will have to review the Facebook permissions you give to Cool Tabs, as we have just detailed.
