1. Introduction.
With Cool Tabs, you can create a campaign with the Hangman mechanic. This lets you set up an interactive Hangman game in which the participant has to guess a word or phrase, letter by letter, in as few attempts as possible and before the time runs out.
The user will see empty boxes for the letters that make up each word or phrase, along with a keyboard to mark the letters they think are correct. Each correct letter will fill in its corresponding box, turn green on the keyboard, and add points. With each incorrect guess, the letter will turn red and subtract points.
You can fully customize the game with your own design and set the word or phrase to be guessed.
You can also assign points for different milestones, enable a ranking of participants, and run a raffle, either among the top scorers or among all participants.
2. Step by step.
2.1. Create your campaign.
First, you need to create your campaign and configure its basic settings. Is this your first time creating a campaign with Cool Tabs? The following tutorial shows you how to configure the basic sections of a campaign, along with other recommended settings, to ensure it works properly and to maximize results.
How to get started creating a campaign: basic settings.
If you have any questions during the process, you can contact us at help@cool-tabs.com.
2.2. Configure the game.
After completing the basic sections, go to the "Gamifications" section, activate the "Hangman" option, and click "Configure".
Once inside the settings, fill in the fields related to the game's features and design.
2.2.1. Main configuration.
In the "Words to guess" section, you can configure one or several words or phrases for your campaign. This lets you set different words or phrases by date, allowing users to come back periodically to try to guess the word or phrase for that day.
For example, you can create a multi-week campaign in which participants get a new word or phrase to discover each day or each week.
To add a word, click the "Add word" button and fill in the following fields:
Start date and end date: set the period during which that word or phrase will be active.
Language: choose whether the word or phrase will be shown in Spanish or English.
Word or phrase to guess: type the word or phrase participants will have to guess. If it's a phrase, enter each word separated by a space.
You can repeat this process to add as many words or phrases as you need, each with its own activation date and language.
Date settings
When setting up multiple words, you can assign each one a specific activation date. Keep in mind that dates cannot overlap. If a date is repeated, an error message will appear.
Character restrictions
Only alphabetic characters are allowed, that is, letters from A to Z, both uppercase and lowercase.
Accents, numbers, and special characters (symbols) are not accepted.
2.2.2. Game conditions.
Set the duration of the game, in seconds. This is the maximum time the participant has to guess the word or phrase you've set.
Set the points to award or deduct for different milestones: for each letter guessed correctly, for each incorrect letter, for guessing the full word or phrase, and for the seconds remaining when the game is solved.
Set the limit of allowed incorrect attempts.
Specify the maximum number of games a user can play. When a game ends, a popup will appear showing the points earned, the text "You have X more tries", and a "Play Again" button. Once the play limit is reached, the user will no longer be able to play again — only to continue.
2.2.3. Design.
You can add a title to be displayed as the header of the game, and include a description (text and/or image) as a hint for the user.
Save your settings and continue editing the campaign.
Below are two examples of the game screen.
1) Hangman game with an image included in the description as a hint.
2) Hangman game with a title and text description included as a hint.
2.3. Other settings.
2.3.1. Ranking of participants.
In gamification campaigns where players score points, it's common to display a public list of participants, so everyone can see how they ranked.
If you want to show the ranking of players along with the points they've obtained, activate the participant list.
To enable the public ranking of participants, follow the steps in this tutorial: How to display a public entries list or ranking of participants.
2.3.2. Winner selection.
If your game is linked to a sweepstakes, you can select winners once the participation period ends.
Winners can be selected randomly or filtered by different conditions, such as the points obtained in the game.
The participant list shows each participant's data, along with the total points they've obtained.
To start the selection process, follow this tutorial: How to select winners and obtain your Certificate of Validity.
3. Other specifications.
The Cool Promo and Cool Promo White Label applications, included in the Gold and Diamond plans respectively, are the ones that let you set up a Hangman game.
You can also create your game with the 7-day free trial, which lets you test any of our plans.
